ABOUT US
The March Fleet formed in 2014 as part of Chelmsford’s lively musical scene, after a chance encounter between several founding members at a mutual friend’s house party. Drinks were had, drinks were spilt, and the name ‘The March Fleet’ was drawn from a hat. The rest, as they say, is history. Salt, by the way, is an excellent means of extracting copious amounts of red wine from a carpet…
Blending rich atmospherics with dynamic instrumentation, The March Fleet draw comparisons to Foals, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, and Sigur Rós, while carving out their own space with a grounded indie-rock sensibility. Think layered guitars, ambient textures, and emotionally charged vocals—echoing the sonic landscapes of This Will Destroy You, Caspian, and Incubus, with lyrical sensitivity reminiscent of Radiohead and Doves.
Over the past decade, the band has steadily built a loyal following across the UK’s independent scene, buoyed by support from local radio stations and promoters. Their sophomore EP, II, earned critical praise and national radio play via BBC Introducing and Resonance FM, marking a significant milestone in their ascent.
On stage, The March Fleet are known for their compelling live shows—equal parts intensity and vulnerability. They've performed at iconic venues including The Dublin Castle (Camden), Highbury Garage, and Hot Box (Chelmsford), as well as being invited to play at Essex-based festivals The FLING and Brownstock.
Now, with the release of their third EP, III, The March Fleet continue to evolve—pushing sonic boundaries while remaining rooted in emotional storytelling. Their music isn’t built on trends, but on authenticity, exploration, and the power of sound to move the soul.
Once described as Chelmsford’s best-kept secret, perhaps it’s time you discovered The March Fleet.
The March Fleet’s latest EP, III, is available now on all streaming platforms.
